Youth media fellowship program

program overview

The Southside Voices Youth Media Fellowship Program is a structured youth development initiative designed to provide high school students with hands-on experience in media production, digital storytelling, and community engagement. The program expands access to media education while strengthening civic participation throughout Southside Virginia. Participants develop communication, leadership, and technical media skills through guided instruction, mentorship, and applied learning experiences. 

The fellowship combines classroom-style learning with real-world media production. Participants engage in podcast creation, digital journalism, photography, community storytelling, and collaborative projects that explore local issues, community perspectives, and regional opportunities.

The fellowship is designed to produce measurable outcomes that support both participant development and community impact.

Participants develop practical communication and media skills, contribute to community storytelling initiatives, strengthen civic engagement, and gain experience that prepares them for future leadership, educational, and workforce opportunities. 

The Southside Voices Youth Media Fellowship Program serves high school students interested in leadership development, media production, storytelling, community engagement, and professional growth.

Future cohort dates, eligibility requirements, and application information will be announced as the program enters public implementation.

The success of the Youth Fellowship Program depends on collaboration with schools, businesses, nonprofit organizations, community leaders, and regional partners who share a commitment to developing future leaders throughout Southside Virginia.
